Project Lead, REACH Core Co-Investigator
Dr. India Ornelas is an associate member of the Cancer Prevention Program in the Public Health Sciences Division at Fred Hutch and an associate professor at the University of Washington. Her research interests include understanding how social and cultural factors influence cancer-related health disparities, more specifically, disparities in Latino, American Indian, immigrant and refugee communities.
Dr. Ornelas joined the PACR team in 2013 as an investigator on a pilot project and is now a lead investigator on our full project examining healthy eating and gardening as an intervention for children and families in the Navajo Nation. In addition to her work with PACR, Dr. Ornelas is taking part in research under a number of grants from the National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control, Health Resources and Services Administration and others.
Dr. Ornelas earned her Ph.D. in health education and health behavior from the University of North Carolina.
