Dr. Rebecca Palacios is an assistant professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences at NMSU. Her research interests include examining the relation of motivational systems to disease precursors for hypertension and diabetes, including obesity-related risk factors (e.g., unhealthy diet and physical inactivity), family history of hypertension, and stress.
Dr. Palacios joined the PACR team in 2016 as an investigator on a pilot project and is now a lead investigator on a full project studying the efficacy of a culturally-adapted cancer parenting education program for Hispanic women. In addition to her research with PACR, Dr. Palacios is working on validating two new research instruments that assess motivation for physical activity and healthy eating.
Dr. Palacios earned her Ph.D. in health psychology from the University of Texas at El Paso.
