Dr. Shirley Beresford is a member of the Cancer Prevention Program in the Public Health Sciences Division at Fred Hutch and a professor in epidemiology at the University of Washington. Her research interests include nutritional epidemiology and chronic disease prevention, specifically looking at improving the scientific basis for public health policy.
Dr. Beresford joined the PACR team in 2008 as an investigator in a pre-pilot project and is now a lead investigator on our full project investigating health and wellness through gardening in the Navajo Nation. In addition to her current research, Dr. Beresford has published more than 200 articles on chronic disease and has acted as a consultant and advisor to organizations such as the Food and Drug Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and the Spina Bifida Association of America.
Dr. Beresford earned her Ph.D. in epidemiology from the University of London.
