Bio:

Dr. Lois Stanford is a professor in the Department of Anthropology at New Mexico State University. Her interests include food studies, food security, and food justice. Her field projects include research in Mexico and the US-Mexico border region.

Dr. Stanford joined the PACR team in 2021as a co-investigator in a pilot project examining traditional Mexican foodways and improving bioavailability of cancer preventive phytonutrients.

Outside of her work with PACR, Dr. Stanford studies the role of traditional Mexican foodways in the conservation of identity, culinary heritage, and nutritional health. She serves as director of the graduate minor in Food Studies and as academic department head in the Department of Anthropology at New Mexico State University.

She earned her Ph.D. in cultural anthropology from the University of Florida, Gainesville, and an M.A. in Latin American Studies from the University of New Mexico.
