Bio:

Dr. Mary O'Connell is an Emeritus Regents Professor in the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences at New Mexico State University. Her primary research interests include plant secondary metabolism and drought and disease resistances.

Dr. O'Connell has dedicated her expertise to the partnership since its establishment in 2002. She has led a number of research projects in conjunction with providing key leadership to the partnership as a whole. Currently, she assists in leading the Administrative, SuCCESS, and Planning and Evaluation Cores. In addition to her work with the partnership and extensive experience as a researcher, Dr. O'Connell consistently served as a mentor in programs for minority students. She mentored for the NIH Minority Access to Research Careers program, the NIH Minority Biomedical Research Support/RISE program, and the NIH Bridges to Native Americans program.

Dr. O'Connell received her Ph.D. in biochemistry from Cornell University.
